Moonlight on the Loch: a very personal throw designed by our Head Weaver, Monica:
“The inspiration for this blanket was Loch Scridain on the last long summer evening last year. We were standing around a camp fire outside our home looking up the loch as evening fell and the clear full moon rose. The light of the moon hit the middle of the loch as the land on both sides grew darker and we could see sparkles of colour on the water.
The dark colours of the hillsides of Ardmeanach and Brolass on the outer edges give way to the softer evening colours reflecting off Ben More. Then in the centre we have the bright sparkles of colour from the reflection of the moonlight off the glassy waters of the loch.
Most of the colours in this blanket are natural, undyed yarns from our native breed sheep, but the narrow bands of colour representing the sparkles on the water were dyed using daffodil flowers, madder root, onion skins and woad.
Like most of our blankets, Moonlight on the Loch is made in a limited edition of only 32 (including the one I will probably buy for myself!)”
